President Buhari Writes National Assembly To Confirm Of New Service Chiefs.
The Senate has received a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari, requesting the confirmation of Service Chiefs on Tuesday, July 28. The letter which was read by the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker House of representative Yakubu Dogara on the floor of both chambers is in accordance with the provisions of Section18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, 2004.
The service chiefs were appointed on July 13 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Those appointed were Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff , Major-General Tukur Buratai as Chief of Army Staff and Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin as Chief of Defence Staff.
Others were Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan as Chief of Defence Intelligence and Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd) as National Security Adviser.
Meanwhile, on July 17, Mr Buhari fired all service chiefs who were appointed by the former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan.
According to reports, the reason for their sack were the increased Boko Haram attacks over the months.
The service chiefs relieved of their posts were Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Kenneth Minimah, The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin and Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.
