Benue Assembly To Inaugurate Standing Committees Soon-Deputy Speaker
The Deputy Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, James Okefe, (APC/ Okpokwu State Constituency), on Friday said Standing Committees of the Assembly would soon be constituted to enhance legislative
work.
Okefe told Assembly correspondents in Makurdi that committees enhanced legislative functions by yielding fast results.
The lawmaker said that after the inauguration of the eighth assembly, the legislature was encumbered with pending assignments which delayed the constitution of committees.
"We met unpaid salaries, incomplete projects in all sectors that needed to be cleared first, " he said.
According to him, the house has already started performing its duties judiciously and needs to constitute committees to enable the commencement of full legislative duties.
Okefe commended his colleagues for the speedy passage of the supplementary budget, saying it would accelerate economic activities in the state.
Another legislator, Mr Bem Mngutyo (APC /Tarka state Constituency) cautioned Ministries and Agencies to ensure judicious utilisation of funds allocated to them.
He warned that Ministries and Agencies that failed to account for their allocations would be sanctioned by the legislature in the discharge of its oversight functions.
"When committees are formed, we will monitor the implementation of projects to ensure that funds are used strictly for the intended purposes."
