Taraba State Gov,Darius Ishaku Said His Predecessors Thoroughly Emptied The State Treasury Before Leaving.

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, yesterday said his predecessors thoroughly emptied the state treasury before leaving office.Ishaku opened up on the state of the treasury nearly four months after assuming office as governor when he met with journalists in the state.

“I don’t like making promises because if I make promises, I am bound by them. Unfortunately I made a lot of promises during my campaign and when I got to the seat, I met an empty treasury.

“To fulfill my campaign promises now is a problem because of the state of the treasury. I am currently taking loan to pay workers salary which is what I hate doing because of the high interest rate charged by commercial banks.

“The workers are barely 1 percent of the state population and I can’t continue taking loans to pay workers. What would I do with the rest of the population, “he queried.

The governor was referring to the immediate past acting governor of the state and now a senator, Sani Danladi and Garba Umar who was ousted in November, 2014 by the Supreme Court.

There were allegations that Sani Danladi packed things in the Government House before leaving office as acting governor in May this year, including cars, television sets and even curtains.
Ishaku urged media men to help him in propagating the gospel of peace in the state, saying he can only embark on developmental projects when there is peace, as doing otherwise would be counter-productive.
