Free Education Campaign Promise: Buhari Gets Reminder From Lawmaker.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been reminded of the campaign promise he made to provide free education to all when elected as the Nigerian president.
A member of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Gudaji, made the reminder in Dutse, Vanguard reports.
Speaking to journalist, Gudaji, who represents Kazaure federal constituency, said it was important to remind the president to fulfill his promise to Nigerians.
According to him, if free education was introduced for all children, it would relieve the burden on parents.
“As you might be aware, things will be too much on our President as such he may likely forget with this vital promise he made of providing free education if voted into power.
“There is urgent need to alert him so that parents will stop taking their children to private schools and end up paying exorbitant amount as school fees of their wards,” he said.
Gudaji decried the exorbitant school fees charged by proprietors of private schools, saying some of the schools were yet to provide the required education for children.
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to be patient as the change they voted for would manifest in a gradual process.
Before Buhari became president, he promised to restore the past glory of education in Nigeria and instill discipline in all schools during the election campaign period. He also promised to provide free education and meals for school children.
The president earlier got a reminder from the House of Reps concerning the missing Chibok girls. At plenary on Tuesday, October 13, Buhari was reminded of his promise to ensure that the abducted Chibok girls are rescued from the captivity of Boko Haram.
