PDP Blasts Presidency Over Akpabio's Arrest.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday reacted to the ongoing investigation of former Akwa Ibom State governor and Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying the presidency is only using its anti-corruption posture as a tool to witch-hunt PDP members and perceived political opponents of APC government.
The interrogation continued on Saturday, after which the former governor was released. But on Sunday the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, at a news conference in Abuja said Akpabio’s investigation by the anti-graft agency was politically motivated and calculated to weaken the party ahead of the 2019 elections. He also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being dictatorial and deliberately harassing and hounding PDP members.
