Senator To Empower 3,400 Women
Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone, has announced that he is going to empower 3,400 women in the state.The senator revealed that the women empowerment programme was his personal initiative and contribution towards eliminating poverty in the state and the country.
Daily Times reports that Sani flagged off the training at his campaign head office in Tudun Wada on Monday, October 12.
Speaking with journalists, the senator disclosed that he was spending N2.5 million on each of the 7 local governments that made up his senatorial zone.
The women who were selected for the programme would acquire various skills such as soap making, knitting, tailoring, fishery, perfumery and other women related skills that would make their lives better.
“I’m doing this as part of my contribution to alleviating their sufferings, assist their husbands and also make them self reliant and be able to assist their family on the long run. At the end of the training, we will also give them starter packs to ensure that they set up businesses of their own.
“I wish to use this singular opportunity to call on other public office holders to also embark on activities in their various areas that will touch the lives of their people positively. In my personal and official capacity, I will not shy away from the responsibility of adding values to the lives of my people in any way possible,” Sani said.
Meanwhile, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state also promised that his administration would empower women by pursuing policies that would make women more self-reliant. He revealed that his government had increased the budget of the ministry of women’s affairs so as to assist over 11 million women in the state.
