A third child — a 2-year-old boy — remained in critical condition Sunday, NBC station KPNX of Phoenixreported.Authorities believe that the man and the woman, who have not been identified, were married, and that their three children were in the car with them, Tempe police spokesman Mike Pooley said at a news conference.Pooley said the circumstances surrounding the incident, which he called "horrific," remained unclear."We don't know what exactly happened," Pooley said. "We don't know what led the driver to do this."Pooley said the father appeared to have been driving when, just after midnight, the SUV drove into Tempe Town Lake, a reservoir in the middle of the city.A witness and police dived in after the car, KPNX reported, and pulled the adults and two children to shore. Police later discovered a third child.
