5 Facts About Govenor-Elect Of Kogi State Yahaya Bello






The result of the first election with candidate substituted in the middle of the process was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the early hours of Sunday, December 6.
Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner. But what do we really know about the governor-elect of Kogi state? Find out five must-know facts about him below:

1. Young politician

Bello is relatively young for a Nigerian politician. He was born in Igbirra, Okene local government area of Kogi state, on June 18, 1975.

2. Academic

He got admission into the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1996 to study accounting. Bello graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1999, the year Nigeria returned to democracy.

He went through the “new” 6-3-3-4 education system introduced by the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida in 1989: the schooling period was divided into six years in primary, three in junior secondary, three in senior secondary and four in the university.

The governor-elect has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the ABU.

3. Corper

The future governor did his one-year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme at Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in Abuja.


4. Career

We cannot say Bello is an experienced politician. The governor-elect is more like “a new kid on the block”.

He worked at the RMAFC, got promoted to the position of assistant chief accountant.

Bello is a businessman and the managing director of FairPlus International Ltd., the chairman of Kogi Youth Arise Forum and a member of the Chartered Fellow of Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN).

5. Hobbies

His hobbies include reading, travelling, driving and football and boxing. Time will tell whether he would be able to withstand political punches.
