Gbajabiamila Accuses Hon Members Of Copying And Representing Bills On The Floor Of The House.

Some members of the House of Representatives have been accused of copying and re-presenting bills that had been passed and gazetted by previous Assembly, for consideration on the floor of the House.
The House Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who made the allegation yesterday during plenary, expressed disappointment that despite the level of education of some of his colleagues, they engaged in serious plagiarism at the country’s highest lawmaking body, thereby, bastardizing and making a mockery of the legislative process.

It should be noted that members of both chambers of the National Assembly are entitled to five aides each, among who are senior legislative aides, whose responsibilities include carrying out research on any matter that the lawmakers may intend to present at plenary.
Gbajabiamila, who came under matter of privilege at yesterday’s plenary of the House, said instead of engaging in serious researches and coming up with good bills that would impact positively on the lives of Nigerians, some lawmakers cut corners and “dust some bills” all in an effort to get bragging rights that they have sponsored bills.

In his ruling, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, who presided over the plenary, sustained Gbajabiamila’s point of order and directed the Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee, Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev (APC, Benue) to henceforth take note of any such practice.
