Benue Deputy Gov Accuses PDP Stakeholders Of Misleading Tarzoor.
Deputy Governor of Benue State, Benson Abuonu, has blamed some stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state for misleading the Governorship candidate of the party, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, against his wish to take the current Governor of the state, Mr Samuel Ortom, to Court having congratulated him as winner of the April 11,2015 general elections in the state.
While dedicating the Supreme Court victory to God and the people of Benue state, the Deputy Governor called on Tarzoor to accept the verdict as a confirmation of the peoples mandate for a prosperous Benue in the interest of all and sundry.
Speaking recently with newsmen at IBB Square in Makurdi, after the judgment was communicated to him, Mr Abouno disclosed that when the results of the governorship elections were announced, the PDP candidate congratulated Governor Ortom in writing but frowned at the action of the stakeholders who advised him against his intension to embrace his own brother, Ortom.
He said that, “This is victory to God Almighty and the people of Benue state. What the Supreme Court did today was just to reaffirm the mandate that was freely given to us by the Benue people. My joy is that with the verdict, government will now be stable enough to embark on the execution of its blueprint and i wish to once again offer an olive branch to our younger brother Tarzoor to join forces with us so that together we can ensure the development of our dear state”.
Responding, Mr Terhemen Tarzoor, in a statement, acknowledged that the Supreme Court affirmed the governor as the 5th democratically elected governor of the state, which according to him, has brought to an end a chain of litigations embarked upon by him.
He stated that the emphasis is obvious to the quest for a better governed and prosperous Benue with the incumbent Governor on seat.
“As for me, the approach remains basically same as I adopted when the political leadership baton changed hands in this country from the PDP to the APC, that I will give plaudits to the ruling government when it performs and as well call attention to its identifiable shortcomings.
“Satisfied that my actions all along have been consistent with this stand, I reaffirm my unchanging resolve to continue on this course with the primary objective too unchanged; a better governed and prospering Benue State.
“I am more than ever convinced that good governance is the combination of the workings of the ruling government and the activities of a vibrant opposition, and in this respect do I readjust myself in the opposition trenches to wage this struggle for a better society for the next three years-plus running.
“Indeed, Dr. Tarzoor has made a generational statement by his carriage and conduct throughout the electoral journey which culminated today, as he has taken the struggle a step further to wrestle political power from the sinister grip of elite cabals and vest same in the custody of the people where it is designed to reside.
“Today the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirmed the election of Samuel Ortom as the 5th Executive Governor of Benue State, bringing to an end a chain of litigations embarked upon by Prince Terhemen Tarzoor PhD, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in that election.
“Dr. Terhemen Tarzoor has issued a 5-Star statement congratulating Gov. Ortom and appreciating those who stood in his support all through this struggle, and this has set the stage for the way forward; to bridge the negative divides and obstacles of blind partisanship and shallow bigotries”, he said.
