Our Tax Regime Within Ambit Of Law-Mimi Orubibi

Recently, Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, Executive Chairman, BIRS, issued an official statement on topical tax matters that answers some of the questions being raised by tax payers, employers of labour and members of the public. Excerpts:

Public complaints about BIRS operations
Over the last three weeks, or thereabout, the Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), which I have the privilege to chair, has become a subject and object of interest on social media where I maintain limited presence. Concerns have ranged from adoption of unfair tax policies including multiple or burdensome taxation, the use of consultants in tax collection, and more recently, to the manner in which BIRS is being run. I would like to thank all those who have been part of this public debate, particularly those who have made very helpful contributions. The fact alone that BIRS is the subject of sustained interest is in itself indicative of the fact that there is some level of activity at the service.
We wholeheartedly welcome these concerns and will from time to time address them to the best of our ability. It is a mark of the seriousness with which I take this feedback process and within the broad framework of public accountability that I have decided to personally issue this statement.
