Social Media Activist Ukan Kurugh Writes Open Letter To President Buhari.@mBuhari

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI OVER FULANI HERDSMEN INVASION OF BENUE STATE.

Your Excellency, I have become absent choice by the pain of the Benue man in the hands of purported Fulani herdsmen to write you this open letter to make you understand how devastating the plight of the Benue man, woman and child has become under your administration.

I may not know the extent to which you have been informed about this situation, but be now aware that, the crisis is affecting 5 local governments in the state namely; Agatu, Logo, Katsina-ala, Buruku and Tarka. This means therefore that the crisis has spread over the 3 senatorial districts in the state; Katsina-ala and Logo in Zone A, Buruku and Tarka in Zone B and Agatu in Zone C.

This means therefore that tension is mounting around the entire state. The destruction done by the alleged Fulani herdsmen has greatly affected the potency of the food basket state. Hence the herdsmen destroyed farms, barns, houses and other property. The rainy season is set to come in and thousands of people predominantly farmers have been displaced and farms and farm-inputs destroyed, even as more than 400 persons have lost their lives.

With the destruction done in the wake of the herders' invasion, they have refused to vacate the land, thus refusing inhabitants entry making them perpetually displaced. The herdsmen at this moment are still heavily armed with sophisticated weapons. The security of the volatile areas has remained poor in the face of destruction and the people are fast loosing faith in the government for not guaranteeing the security of their lives and properties as promised.

The fatality of this damage is better seen than told. You condemned the killings in Rivers State and made mention of putting an end to herders migration in the country within 24 months, during your visit to Malabo in Equitoria Guinea. As good as this may seem, the Benue man is worried as to the fate of his safety in 24 months, which is 2 years. Moreso that, the killings in Benue State were not equally condemned.

Even yesterday, a community (Mbalagh, Tombo) in Buruku LGA was attacked. I charge you to rise and do more to ensuring the security of lives and property. I urge you to equally stir your security chiefs to action as most of them have not been perceived as active.

Benue people voted you, not to be in turn get killed but to stay alive and reap the benefits therefrom.

Sincerely, Ukan Kurugh. Social Media Activist
(Member) Kurugh House Of Representative 17th March, 2016.
