Why I Shunned Agatu Attack To Attend A ‘Gang Leader's’ Thanksgiving-Gov Ortom.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Wednesday said he decided to shun the attack on Agatu people to attend a thanksgiving service for a notorious criminal gang leader Terwase Akwaza popularly known as ‘Gana’ because of the bold step he has taken to repented and accepted Jesus Christ as his true saviour.
New Telegraph reports that ,Gana had led hundreds of other notorious criminals to accept the amnesty program of Governor Ortom and has been assisting security operatives in exposing criminal hideouts and convincing his former colleagues to shun violence and embrace peace.

Governor Ortom has been blamed by his subjects for not personally visiting the ravaged Agatu communities since the outbreak of the attack where hundreds of people have been killed and many others displaced following the invasion of the area by suspected Fulani insurgents to see things for himself.

But fielding questions from journalists at Government House Wednesday, the governor explained that he considered the thanksgiving for the ‘repentant criminal’ paramount because he (Gana) has been terrorizing innocent people of the state and for him to take a bold step to renounce his sins was a thing of joy.

I don't think this was a good step for the governor to take. The Agutu people despite they are a minority in the state deserved to be assured that government and the people of Benue were in support of their existence. If the massacre was happening in Gboko or Kastinala am 100% sure that Mr. Governor will hold off any important celebration to rally support for his people. Let us be compassionate, show respect to others no matter their status. the gang leaders soul is already saved, reason he should have attended a more pressing matter but there are more than 1 million Agatu people endangered by insistent fulani attacks. " it is better to go to a house of mourning than a house of celebration"....that is what Jesus said.
