Akwa Ibom state governor visits President Buhari in Abuja (photos)

After a recent visit of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state to President Muhammadu Buhari, another governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has visited the Nigerian leader.

Pictures obtained by NAIJ.com showed Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom state in another meeting with President Buhari at the state House in Abuja on Tuesday, August 9.

As at the time of filing this report, there were no statements by either party as to why the governor was in Abuja, but feelers have it that there may be a project in the state which he wishes the president to help facilitate.

His visit follows a recent visit by Governor Dickson, who went to the villa to discuss issues relating to the Niger Delta Avengers with the president who won last presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dickson said dialogue would help to unite all the stakeholders and provide a lasting solution to the problem.

He said: “I have said that the issues in the Niger Delta, the terrain, the historic nature of the issues and challenges are such that military solution may not be the way forward.

“For us who are products of political system, who are at this level, we have a duty to mobilise communal and local leadership; we have a duty to support the work security agencies are doing, we have a duty to ensure that issues are better appreciated and that we bridge the communication gap.”

Meanwhile, Sahara Reporters has obtained information that the talks between Buhari’s government and Niger Delta militants have suffered setback over the payment of N8 billion.

One of the sources in the presidency disclosed that a number of “elders” from the oil-rich area, who have been represented in the negotiations as “major stakeholders,”wanted N8 billion from the Buhari government as a condition for continuing with talks.
