Benue Assembly Receives 220 Petitions Over Mismanagement Of Bailout Funds.
The chairman of the Committee on Public Petitions, Bills Review and Appraisal of the Benue State House of Assembly, Kester Ikyenge, said his committee received a total of 220 petitions bordering on non-payment of salaries as a result of the mismanagement of the bailout funds.
Ikyenge also alleged that the N86 million released to the leadership of the assembly for the purchase of computers for the biometric exercise in the state were not utilised for the purpose, adding that it was not part of the functions of the house to carry out biometric exercise.
The committee chairman, who represents Logo State Constituency at the assembly, while briefing his constituents at Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area of the state, at the weekend, to mark his one year in office, said the legislature had no business embarking on an exercise which it was not trained to carry out.
He told members of his constituency that his office at the assembly, which is in a dilapidated state, was inundated with pensioners and local government staff over salaries and pension matters, adding that he was being victimised for the posture he took on the shoddy manner the house leadership handled the controversial N750 million used for the purchase of cars.
