Benue Govt, NGO To Assist IDPs, Disabled Persons

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has said the agrarian state was willing to collaborate with the Mercy Cors, a non-governmental organization to provide human and financial assistance to disabled persons. The government said the internally displaced persons that were rendered homeless by the heinous attacks of Fulani herdsmen would be supported.

Ortom stated this yesterday in Makurdi while receiving the country director of Mercy Corps, Iveta Ouvry, who paid him a courtsey visit at Benue Peoples House. He said Mercy Corps’ programme of assisting vulnerable persons especially those displaced was in line with his administration’s focus on improving lives of the less privileged.

He said in a statement signed by the senior special assistant on Media, Godwin Akor that the activities of the non-governmental organization and that of the state government would be synchronized in such a way that the targeted communities would derive maximum benefits.

It said Iveta Ouvry is a humanitarian for supporting the vulnerable persons in the state.

Leader of the delegation, Iveta Ouvry, told the governor that,Mercy Corps was operating in over 40 countries and that Guma local government and other places that have serious problems in the state were assessed for possible intervention.

She explained that the organization has started programmes in Adamawa and Gombe and are in Benue to give succour to IDPs and other vulnerable persons.
