Garki Hospital Launches Subsidized Sickle Cell Clinic

The Garki Hospital has inaugurated a subsidised sickle cell clinic to cater for the healthcare needs of the patients in Abuja and its environs.

The aim of the clinic was to provide adequate healthcare facilities at a reduced rate for people living with sickle cell disease, the medical director of the hospital, Dr Nyomudime Essen, said at the opening ceremony on Friday.

“The greatest majority of those who suffer from this problem are actually of African descent and that is what necessitates the provision of the clinic where specialists would attend to them,” he said.

He added that one of the objectives of the hospital’s corporate social responsibility was trying to see how it could help patients, knowing that the cost of medical care had skyrocketed and that had impacted negatively on the cost of health care services for patients.
