Gunmen kill ex-LG chairman in Ondo


BARELY two months to the governorship election in Ondo state, a former council chairman, Evangelist Niyi Pirisola was yesterday gunned down by hired assassins.



He was reportedly coming back from a church vigil at about 2am when unknown gunmen ambushed him in front of his residence at Ilutuntun area of the council.

The deceased who was the immediate past caretaker chairman of Okitipupa council area of the state was shot while he was about to open the gate of his house.

Vanguard gathered that his assassins who ambushed him pumped several bullets into his body.

He reportedly died on the way to the hospital.

The deceased was also the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the local government until his death.

Police Image Maker, Femi Joseph confirmed the incident adding that the command had begun investigation into the killing.

Joseph said: “ The deceased was coming from the church and the assailants attacked him and killed him. We have commenced investigation on it, and I am sure the killers will be brought to book.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the PDP, has expressed shock over the incident, describing the act as inhuman.

The Publicity Secretary of the party Banji Okunomo in a statement called on all security agencies in the state to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to book.

According to the statement “ This is necessary because of the sensitivity of the times that we are in Ondo State considering that the State is preparing for its governorship election come November 26, 2016.

“The PDP cautions against anything that could heat up the polity and impede the transition process that is being prepared for in our dear Sunshine State.”
Okunomo urged the security agents to be up and doing in protecting lives and properties of the people of the state

He added that “ We must not allow hoodlums to tamper with this track record or dent our image in any way.”
