Two hundred firemen of the Benue State Fire Service who successfully concluded training have been offered letters of employment by the Samuel Ortom administration.

Declaring the training of the firemen closed today at Government College Makurdi, the Governor promised that his administration would equip the State Fire Service to enable it perform its duties optimally. He directed the Ministry of Works, Transport and Energy to verify and commence the repair of dilapidated buildings and broken-down vehicles of the agency.

Governor Ortom said a site had been provided for the establishment of the North Central zonal office of Federal Fire Service in Makurdi as part of his administration's commitment to combating fire disasters.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the training undergone by the firemen and urged them to be diligent in carrying out their duties.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Internal Affairs and Special Services, Mr. Dan Aernyi said the certificates issued to the firemen in addition to the permanent letters would motivate and enhance their progress in service.

The event featured presentation of certificates to some Fire Service officers who distinguished themselves at the training in addition to a symbolic demonstration of fire fighting techniques.
