Aunty you dey go? The voice so persistent and intentionally directed at me. This voice sounds female I 💠thought.... I stopped in my tracks, turned my head and oh yes I was right. It was a she (conductor).. You guys needed to have seen me smile, the smile was so wide that you would have thought I had hit a jack pot.
I didn't know when I turned fully and almost ran towards her. I threw her a big hug and said. My name is Onyinye, what is yours? Amazingly, she was very pleasant and in a great mood. She smiled right back and hugged me as if to say we had known for ages.
What is your name I asked again? She said mercy. I asked further, surname? And she said it is Tiv oooo. And I am like (Upande ve) and she blurted out a return greeting in Tiv. Then i asked again, your surname, and she said Kumadeen..... Before you could say Jack, I was taking pictures and she was enjoying every moment. I thought the driver would be angry, but no, he wasn't. He was smiling ear to ear.
I asked so many questions at the same time.
How old are you?
Are you in school?
Where are your parents?
Why did you choose to do this.
My questions were plenty..... She began answering one after another and then Horns were blasting and blaring from behind. My interview has to come to an end. I quickly grabbed her phone number and the bus drove away.
I will meet MERCY KUMADEEN again, that is for sure.
I think she has to go to school? Don't you think so too?
