TOR TIV STOOL: Gov Ortom says the next Tor Tiv will swear by the Bible not SWEM anymore.

Benue state gov Samuel Ortom says the new Tor Tiv will no longer be partisan and he will swear with the bible..He made this and other comments currently generating serious outraged from the people at Government House, Makurdi, during the Interdenominational Fasting and Prayer Service for Divine Guidance in the Traditional Institution in Benue State on Wednesday 19 Oct 2016.

He said
"No traditional ruler in Benue State will again be allowed to get involved in partisan politics. The next Tor Tiv and other chiefs soon to emerge will take the oath of office with the Bible in their hands. Our people have tried swem but it failed us when we needed a defender against invaders. We will follow and obey God this time and allow His interest to prevail" - Ortom.

There is however serious debate on this position ,most people are of the opinion that he should not jump into issues of oath taking by traditional rulers,he should allow the way things are done traditionally to take place,and the Tor Tiv can decide on which oath to take.
