Benue people in Lagos urge FG to end the killings and destruction of lives and properties in the State. [PHOTOS]

INDIGENES of Tiv in Benue State, speaking on the platform of Mdzough TIV, Lagos chapter, have pleaded with the Federal Government and security agencies to stop the killings and destruction of lives and properties in the state. At a briefing in Lagos, they called on the state and Federal governments to save the Tiv ethnic nation from extinction.

 President-General of the group in Lagos, Prince Aondowase Kajo, who spoke on behalf of the people, claimed that the Tiv nation is under siege from herdsmen, alleging that over 1,879 persons, including children, had been killed between 2013 and 2016, adding that over 100,000 persons were currently displaced as more people had been killed this year.

 While noting that the herdsmen and Tiv people had been living together for long, he wondered what went wrong in recent times. He said: “We urge government to deal with the situation decisively and not politically. “We are perturbed by these unprovoked killings of our people. The Federal Government must protect us now or else we will protect ourselves.”
