Emeka Offor donates $2m worth of educational materials to Imo

Businessman, Sir Emeka Offor Wednesday donated through his foundation, the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, books and educational materials worth about $2million to the government of Imo State in support of its free education programme.

Receiving samples of the books and other educational materials, at the Government House Owerri Wednesday, the visibly excited governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha told the donor, Sir Emeka Offor that: “Imo State is known for education and the only industry in the State is education. So whatever contribution anybody makes to the educational development of the State is music to our ears. Emeka you have come to the right place. We appreciate this partnership and we hope it will advance the educational interest of the state and beyond.”

The governor further said: “I have known Sir Emeka Offor for many years. I often say that his name is synonymous to giving and philanthropy. Indeed, he has continued to demonstrate his large-heartedness by encouraging education and driving away illiteracy in our society. This is worthy of commendation.”

The Imo State government also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sir Emeka Offor Foundation for partnership. The governor also added that Imo State has many schools and a school enrolment that has risen to more than 800,000 courtesy of the free education programme.
