Women storm Government House Makurdi, demand end to Rape & Defilement of Children. PHOTOS



Women Situation Room Nigeria WSRN led by her North Central Zonal Coordinator Mrs. Magdalene Igbazua today 4 August 2017 staged a protest in Makurdi, Benue State against Rape & Defilement of Children Especially Girls. 

Dressed in all black, the women accompanied with members of some NGOs, CSOs, CBOs, Journalists as well as heavily armed police personnel to maintain law and order as they marched from Royal Choice-In Hotel, through NKST Church Lobi, also passing by Central Bank Makurdi all the way to the Benue People's House. 

They chanted songs expressing grief over the increasing cases of rape in Makurdi town while also displaying placards with inscriptions aligning with the theme of their protest. 

On reaching the Benue People's House, the protesters were addressed by Col. Edwin Jando, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Security. Col. Jande on behalf of the Governor who was out of the town at that particular moment. 

Col. Jando noted the grievances and advocations by the protesters which ranged from full implementation of laws against rape and for the government to develop a renewed zeal towards protecting the lives of children thus prevent abuse and molestation. 

He promised to extend their message to the Governor, assuring them of the willingness of the present administration to tackle criminal issues and further secure Benue for all inhabitants. 

The protest also had in attendance the State Coordinator for SMILE Project, Chairman and members of Child Protection Network Benue and also members of the Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria, Benue State Chapter...
