Austin Iwar is new CP posted to Bayelsa.
After nearly one month of confusion and uncertainty in Bayelsa State, Mr Austin Iwar, has been posted to the state Police Command as its new commissioner.
Iwar takes over from CP Don Awunah, who has been redeployed in the Force Headquarters, Abuja as the CP, Border Patrol.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Mr Asinim Butswat, said that the new Commissioner of Police assumed duty on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
The statement said that until his present posting, Iwar was the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command.
The statement described him as a dogged crime fighter, a disciplinarian and a professional Police Officer who had served in various commands and formations in various capacities.
The command solicited the cooperation and partnership of the good and well-meaning people of Bayelsa State to accord the new Commissioner of Police the necessary support to discharge his duties of maintaining law and order in the state.
Recall that before the latest posting, there had been confusion in Bayelsa over the deployment of four commissioners of police in the state within two weeks by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris.
It was alleged that the police authorities were influenced to redeploy the CPs by some politicians, who were uncomfortable with the officers posted to the state.
About three weeks ago, police authorities redeployed Mr Don Awunah in the Force Headquarters, Abuja; he was replaced with CP Joseph Mukan.
But barely 48 hours later, Mukan was removed and replaced with CP Ahmed Bello.
Bello was said to be preparing to take over at the command when a fresh signal was issued by the Force Headquarters asking CP Ahmad Abdulraman to proceed to Bayelsa as the commissioner of police.
