Social Investment Programme | Efcc grills Benue First Lady.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday grilled Benue first lady, Dr. Eunice Ortom, over her alleged roles in the massive frauds which had been uncovered at the state office of the National Social Investment Programmes, NSIP.
Governor Ortom’s wife who arrived the Abuja headquarters of the EFCC with a team of her lawyer at the early hours of Monday, August 13, 2018 was made to answer allegations of diversion of Funds at the Social Investment Program office in Benue State.
Additionally, she was made to answer question about a fresh N250 million which the acting focal person, Terris Damsa, paid into her account few weeks ago.
During the interrogation which lasted for about six hours according to EFCC sources, the Benue first lady was accused by her interrogators of collecting over N178m on Rice she did not supply to food vendors on the scheme.
The EFCC interrogators accused her that she was meant to supply about 46,000 bags of rice valued but instead she supplied less than 15,000 bags and made away with over N178m.
The EFCC team of interrogators also accused the first lady of inserting over 2,000 fictitious names on the payroll of the Benue office of the NSIP, and diverted all the monies accrued to them.
Sources also hinted that Dr. Eunice Ortom was accused of illegal deduction of Funds from the accounts of food vendors for cooking utensils that were not supplied and for other sundry deductions in connivance with the banks.
However, she was granted an administrative bail but she is expected to report back to the Commission by Monday, August 20, 2018 for further questioning.
