2019: Ex-PDP chairman, Adamu Muazu, mulls joining APC

Barring last minute change of decision, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Muazu, may join the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections, sources close to the politician told news men

Dubbed game-changer in the twilight of the PDP administration for bringing decampees into the then ruling party fold, Mr Muazu may also be cajoled into the ruling APC by some powerful forces in the presidency.

“Osinbajo’s visit to Bauchi for the wedding of Muazu’s daughter was deliberate attempt to seal the defection deal,” a presidency source who preferred anonymity told our reporter.

“The APC is vehement about getting huge votes from Bauchi and Kano. That is why Vice President Osinbajo is doing all his best to bring opposition politicians to APC.

“Remember it was Osinbajo who negotiated former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau’s defection to APC in Kano. In Bauchi, the presidency understands that the party has problem in the state as most of the politicians are not with the governor.”

On Wednesday, reports have it that Mr Muazu held a meeting with Mr Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mr Muazu arrived the Vice President’s wing at the Presidential Villa around 4pm and went straight into a closed door meeting with Mr Osinbajo.

In Olusegun Adeniyi’s book, ‘Against the Run of Play’, Mr Jonathan alleged that Muazu worked against his re-election bid.

“I felt really betrayed by the result from some northern states. Perhaps for ethnic purposes, even security agents colluded with the opposition to come up with spurious results against me.

“What happened was very sad not for me as a person, but for our democracy. Take, for instance, the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. I believe he joined in the conspiracy against me. For reasons best known to him, he helped to sabotage the election in favour of the opposition,” Mr Jonathan said.

But Mr Muazu immediately denied the allegations of anti-party activities, saying “I find it difficult to believe that President Jonathan would level such allegation against me. How can one betray himself?”
