Jonathan boasts the Nigeria Entertainment Industry with N200million.

There is cause for the Nigerian entertainment industry to jubilate. President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday announced that the sum of N200 million has been earmarked by the Finance Ministry for direct investment into the Nigerian entertainment industry. The President made this disclosure at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, venue of the Silverbird Group 3oth anniversary event.

While acknowledging that the nation's entertainment industry generates about $250 million annually, the President said his administration was prepared give a new face to the industry, a development which he revealed would make it a formal sector and would protect the practitioners from further exploitation. 

The President noted that the direct investment intervention for the industry would reduce unemployment and generate economic growth, adding that he would be happy to be part of the history that would ensure that the Nigerian entertainment enter the Guinness Book of World Records through making records in global entertainment. To that end he charged Nigerian entertainers to continue to sing and produce better songs, make better films and build more cinemas. According to him, the works of the creative artist in Nollywood have shown that it would soon dominate the world, noting that the Nigerian music has already set Africa on fire.
