Benue State House Of Assembly Gets 3rd Speaker.

Honourable Emmanuel Uyah from the Gwer East constituency has been elected as the new speaker of Benue State House of Assembly. His election was a unanimous adopted by the members, including the immediate past speaker, Hon Dave Iorhemba.

His emergence was the third of the seventh assembly in the last 17 months. The first speaker, Terhembe Tarzohor, had his election nullified by the appeal court barely three months to his election, Honourable Dave Iorhemba, who succeeded him, last Thursday, resigned his appointment to escape being impeached.

In his inaugural speech, the new speaker appealed to assembly members and people of the state to pull down the wall of disunity so as to move the state forward, as he described the task ahead of him as onerous, which he said needed the support of all to ensure its success.

Uyah , however, condemned in its entirety the invasion of thugs into the assembly chambers last Thursday which disrupted its session.

It will be recalled that members of the assembly, last Thursday, moved for the impeachment of the then speaker, before he pleaded for voluntary resignation. The procceding was later disrupted by thugs who invaded the chambers and stole the mace in the process.
