Governor Suswam Opens Up On The N500million Federal Government Flood Relief Funds.
Benue State Governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam today explained in his democracy day speech that the N500 million federal government's flood relief fund has been distributed to the affected local government areas for execution of projects.
In the speech broadcast live on Radio Benue he disclosed that the disbursement was made on the basis of the degree of devastation with the most affected getting N101 million.
According to him the money was intact and would be released to he councils when they produce bills of quantities for the projects which he said include schools and clinics.
Dr Suswam stated that if the amount was shared to those affected they would have gotten as little as two or three thousand naira hence the need to utilize it for projects.
He said a new ministry of environment and urban development has been created to handle new challenges in the sector and appealed to citizens not to block drainages with waste.
The Governor stated that he was taken to court to produce the money but that it was for those affected by last year's flood and not for the entire state.
The elaborate activities lined up for this year's democracy day celebrations which included prayers in churches and mosques, state dinner, cultural night and reception at the IBB Square in Makurdi ended this afternoon.
Governor Suswam also inaugurated a 400-bed female hostel he donated to The Benue State University.
