PDP Aspirants In Benue At War Over Party’s Guber Ticket.

Ahead of the 2015 governorship primaries in Benue State, gubernatorial aspirants under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state working committee of the party are currently enmeshed in a fight over who becomes the party’s flag bearer. The crisis is said to be the result of the alleged endorsement of a candidate by the Dr Agbo Emmanuel-led State PDP Working Committee.

LEADERSHIP gathered that many are clamouring for former registrar of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Felix Atume, to clinch the ticket because of his antecedent and perception that he is backed by Agbo, the party chairman who is also an engineer like Atume.

Although at the moment, there is no official statement from the party about the brewing rage but many aspirants are obviously concerned that they may be schemed out of the race.

More than 30 contenders including the former attorney general of the federation and minister for justice, Mr Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), former registrar of COREN, Felix Atume, as well as commissioners and core politicians have indicated interest to run for the race.

Some of the aspirants have visited the state working committee of the PDP led by the state chairman of the party, Dr Agbo Emmanuel who has assured the various contenders of the party’s support and cooperation.

Among gubernatorial aspirants who have visited the PDP office include, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), former registrar of COREN, Felix Atume, permanent secretary of internal affairs, Hinga Biem, former speakers of Benue State House of Assembly, Terhemen Tarzoor and David Iorhemba, as well as permanent secretary of local government pensions, Andy Uwouku among others.
