The Benue Liberation Alliance has called on the federal government and security agencies to take proactive steps to check the killings and destruction of property taking place in Benue state.
The group condemned the attitude of the security agencies and the federal government, which it said, has failed to intervene in the crisis, leading to many displaced people in the communities.
Patron of the Group, Prof. Tor Iorapu, while speaking at the event, berated the “massive displacement of the citizens in the state adding that “with all these evidences, there is still no security intervention in all of these places”.
“We are even more worried by the delayed actions of NEMA, the security agencies and federal government” insisting that “about one million internally displaced people are without food, medicine and medical supplies” he said.
He further noted that “hundreds of thousands sleep in open places” and commended “relatives and well-meaning citizens of Benue” who shelter some of them.
He also called for the immediate closure of the borders by the federal government because “the intrusion of mercenaries through the North East and some parts of North West has led to the experiences we are having today”.
