President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has tasked Nigerian media to  join forces with the government in the battle against insurgency and terrorism tearing the nation apart.Senator Mark said when the Management team of the Newswatch newspapers Limited visited him in his  office  in Abuja yesterday that  journalists should be guided by national interest and avoid sensational reports capable of setting the nation ablaze. He noted that Nigeria has some of the best hands in the media but called for  caution and improved capacity building in the profession so as to follow the path of honour and dignity which media is known for. According to Mark:"You will recalled that under my  Senate Presidency, Freedom of Information Bill was passed  into law to give the media unlimited access to information. "I  am  appealing that  this freedom must go with national interest and responsibility . There is a responsibility attached to this freedom. The media informs and educate the people.  But What we read on the pages of some of our newspapers makes one uncomfortable. "it is not good to set the country ablaze because you want to sell your newspapers. Criticism is allowed but you don't need to impute motives on people . State the facts as they are."Senator Mark appealed to all Nigerians to be involved in the fight against insurgency saying holistic approach is required in order to end the war as soon as possible. He praised the  Newswatch team for the good job just as he urged the media  to be interested in the unity of the nation In his remark, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Newswatch Newspapers Limited, Moses Jolayemi said he came with the decision of the management team of the newspaper to appoint the Senator Mark as the Model of the newspaper. Jolayemi commended the leadership qualities of Senate President saying every Nigerian is fulfilled and will always wish to associate with the successes Senator Mark has recordeded.
