How Armed Robbers Attacked FCMB Yesterday In Lekki, Lagos

Between 3pm and 5pm on Thursday, March 12, 2015, a group of five, fully kitted armed robbers stormed Admiralty Way, Lekki, one of the prime residential areas on the Lagos Island, to rob a branch of First City Monument Bank. According to an eye witness who gave the account below,

“Around 4.45pm, I was driving to my office in Ikoyi from Lekki but when I got a spot on the bridge, I heard sporadic gunshots,” said one eyewitness.

Three of robbers were said to have gone into the banking hall, where they ordered everyone to lie down. The remaining two, however, mounted a blockade in front of the bank to wade off confrontation.

The operation is believed to have been successful as reports suggest that it was only when the robbers were fleeing from the scene that they encountered some resistance from security operatives. “They left with boxes of money, before other policemen arrived,”
another witness recounted.
Three policemen and a teenager were killed during the assault.
