Tarzoor/Ngbede Guber Campaign Organization Hails Take Off Of NATFORCE In Benue State.

The Tarzoor/Ngbede Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation (TARN 2015) in Benue state, has welcomed the establishment of the National Task Force (NATFORCE) to check the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Nigeria, describing the formal take off of the agency in the state as very timely.

In a press release signed by Tom Chiahemen,Media Adviser to the Director-General of the campaign organization, Amb. Professor Iyorwuese Hagher  who stated this in Makurdi on Thursday, noted that the Task Force could not have come at a better time than now when Nigeria is preparing for the conduct of its General Elections beginning with the presidential and National Assembly polls on March 28, 2015.

Ambassador Hagher, who was receiving a team of NATFORCE personnel at the TARN office, said, “Nigeria is in dire need of your Task Force because as I speak to you , we have received reports of an attack on some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state who went to Katsina-Ala on a legitimate business of electioneering campaigns.

They were ambushed and gunned down by unknown persons believed to be supporters of the opposition party in the state. “It is for purposes like this that your organization was established and I am very happy that Nigeria has taken a rightful step to combat small arms that are being used to cause destruction of lives and make political contest a matter of war rather than persuasion, negotiation and conviction,” Hagher said.

He assured that the Tarzoor/Ngbede campaign organization and the in-coming PDP Administration in Benue state would do all that is necessary to make work of the NATFORCE in the state very relevant and convenient.

Earlier, the state Director of Protocol of the NATFORCE, Benue state command, Cmdr Mhii Samuel, who led the team, said they were at the TARN office as part of the on-going familiarizastion visits to government agencies, corporate bodies and organizations to intimate them with the operations of the Task Force and to seek areas of mutual cooperation.

He told the Director-General that the NATFORCE was a product of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries, established to assist the relevant authorities in the conception, development and implementation of national policies for the fight against proliferation and illegal circulation of small arms and light weapons in the West African sub-region.

According to Cmdr Mhii, the NATFORCE was inaugurated since 2010 through public private partnership (PPP) under the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Information and Communications as well as the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Customs Service and other key government organizations.
