IBB Square In Benue State Deserted As Workers boycott May DayActivities Over Unpaid Salaries,Wages & Pensions.

Benue workers today joined their counterparts all over the world to mark the Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day despite the excruciating living and working conditions they are being subjected to.Although the Federal Government declared today as a public holiday, workers say: “There is nothing to celebrate except for being alive. With the hardship and hash conditions of living they are facing now without salaries, there is no way any civil servant will go under the hot sun to listen to a speech by the Governor.”

According to them, they cannot celebrate when they are owed salary arrears, the state government has neglected the welfare of workers in Benue ,workers are so aggrieved and angry that this action cost the governor ,Gabriel Suswam his senatorial ambition, they mobilised to see that he did not only lose his ambition but also that his party, PDP, did not win the governorship seat.
Someone observed on Facebook that the governor of my state Gabriel Torwua Suswam is conspicuously absent from the May Day celebrations at the Ibrahim Babangida Square Makurdi. He's said to be represented by the Head of Civil Service. The stadium is also as lively as a morgue at the time of this posting. Now there are two issues; Suswam knows that he cannot face workers whom he owes months of unpaid salaries ,he's already on his way out of office and has probably lost the mettle to even spin another yarn for these aggrieved workers. I'm wondering if he will also delegate his handover duties on the 29th.
Secondly, to expect any Benue worker at the event is a pipe dream, people who can't pay fees for their resuming children, feed them or pay their bills will be fools to show up at that arena,it will only buttress the slave tag they already wear.
Furthermore , it is said that the Nigeria Labour Congress elections at the state were unable to hold and as such there's no legally constituted body to mobilise workers even if they were going to participate.
This is what happens when a man develops a god
