Full text of statement reads:
"My attention has been drawn to a Radio Benue broadcast of 30th August, 2015 in which His Excellency the Executive Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, announced my appointment or intended appointment as Chairman of a committee of retired police officers charged with the responsibility of mobilizing Benue State indigenes and making contacts with THOSE in charge of relevant organisations for purpose of recruiting Benue State indigenes into the Police Force.
While I thank His Excellency for his kind thoughts, I wish to state that I was not consulted nor my consent sought before the radio announcement which I consider as very embarrassing. I humbly and with great sense of responsibility decline this appointment for personal and moral reasons. I do not need to be in a committee to help secure jobs in the Civil Service. Besides, President Buhari has said that recruitment into the Police will be strictly on merit and not through undue influence or corrupt overture.
I shall however, continue as usual in my humble way to assist all Benue State indigenes, regardless of their tribe, religion or political leaning, to get jobs wherever and whenever I have opportunity to do so.
Alh. Abubakar B. Tsav, NPM
Commissioner of Police rtd.
