#BBOG Group Mourns One Of Its Member, Elvis Iyorngurum.

The #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group yesterday mourned the death of one of its stauch member and strong advocate, Elvis Iyorngurum who died on 14 October 2015, at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

Iyorngurum’s death coincide with exactly 18 months when over 200 schoolgirls of Government Secondary School, Chibok were abducted in their school by terrorists on 14 April 2014.

In a press release signed by one of its leaders, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, the group stated that Iyorngurum was one of the group’s staunchest advocates adding that he had stood for what he believed in and had always spoken out for the voiceless and defended the defenceless.

It added that Iyorngurum who never failed to attend the group’s sit-out since he joined the movement, had fought hard for a better Nigeria adding that his deep intellect and unique perspectives reinvigorated the advocacy at critical times.

“It is with a deep sense of sorrow we announce the passing on of our Movement’s family member Elvis Iyorngurum, yesterday 14 October 2015, afternoon at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi at about 2 pm. (It would be recalled that yesterday was exactly 18 months since the abduction of our Chibok schoolgirls). He died of ill health.

“Elvis was one our Movement’s staunchest advocates. He stood for what he believed in. He spoke for the voiceless and defended the defenceless. He fought hard for a better Nigeria. His deep intellect and unique perspectives reinvigorated our advocacy at critical times. He was selfless.

“Today Elvis may be no more alive, but he would forever be remembered for all he did for others. He made tremendous difference in the lives of his fellow human beings. The value and worth of life may not necessarily be longevity but the impact and what difference we make in the lives of our fellow human beings.

“We are inspired by his life example. He will be sorely missed, but surely never forgotten as his legacies will continue to speak. This departure challenges us to do even much more to achieve the cause for which he committed his life,” it said.

According the the statement, Iyorngurum is survived by both parents, siblings and other family members.

The group held a candle light procession for him yesterday and will open a condolence register at the Unity Fountain for those who wants to pay their last respect to him.
