“We have continued to sponsor Benue pilgrims even in the face of dwindling economic fortunes because we believe it is an opportunity for them to deepen their faith in Christ and commit themselves to a life of Godliness,” Governor Ortom stressed.
He urged the pilgrims to be of good conduct and worthy ambassadors of their families, communities, Benue State and indeed Nigeria as a whole.
According to him, the visit was aimed at bringing pilgrims face to face with some of the sites they read about in the Holy Scriptures so that the stories will become more real to them.
Governor Ortom requested prayers for the state and the country so that God could help all tiers of government to surmount the current challenges which seem humanly intractable.
In her remarks, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Margaret Uzer commended the state government for releasing funds early for the trip in spite of what she described as the lean resources and huge debts it inherited.
“We are proud to say that the release of pilgrimage funds was done to us in the first week of September which has never been the case,” She stated.
