Senate Receives Another Petition Against Female Ministerial Nominee








The Senate on Thursday, October 15, received a petition against the ministerial nominee from Sokoto state, Aisha Abubakar.This petition was presented to the Senate by Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto east senatorial district.

He said the highlight of the petition was that she was to be replaced by a more competent representative of the state whereby he laid the petition on the table of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki.
He said: “I have a petition from Sokoto against the nominee from Sokoto state, Aisha Abubakar.

“The highlight of the petition is that she is being replaced by a more competent person.”
The replacement is yet to be disclosed.
Meanwhile, it is a norm for all related petitions to be referred to the committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions.

Abubakar was among the second batch of the ministerial nominee which came 12 days after the first batch of 21 names were sent to the Senate.

She is not the first nominee to face a petition. Two ministerial nominees, Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers state) and Hajiya Amina Mohammed (Kaduna state) appeared before the Senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions on Monday, October 12, to respond to petitions against their nominations as minister.
