Sokoto Farmers Get N1.5bn Govt Support !

Sokoto State government is to assist 20, 000 local farmers with both farm implements and other inputs worth N1.5billion, commissioner for Agriculture, Nagwari Tambuwal disclosed, yesterday.

Making the disclosure at the Government House, Sokoto shortly after the State Executive Council meeting, Nagwari noted that, the money will be used to purchase 150 trucks of fertilizer, (NPK/UREA), and water pump, among others.

According to him, the gesture will encourage rice, wheat, onion and tomatoes production among others.

The commissioner noted further that the measure is targeted at boosting agriculture in Sokoto noting that the measure became necessary in view of the devastating effect of the 2015 flood that affected 15 local government areas of the state.
Nagwari, however added that, beneficiaries of the gesture will be drawn from 20 local governments of the state.

In his remarks, the commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Saidu Umar said, Sokoto State government is considering the reintroduction of Teachers College in each of the three senatorial districts of the state as a way of attaining the goal of the state of emergency declared in the education sector.

In a related development, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has inaugurated a high level technician committee to effectively handle the transfer of staff from the various ministries.
