Court remands Ortom’s aide over alleged murder of another aide.
A Makurdi Magistrate Court yesterday remanded the Special Adviser on Special Duties to Governor Samuel Ortom in prison custody on suspicion of the murder of Denen Igbana who was a close security aide to the governor.
Igbana was shot dead penultimate weekend by yet-to-be identified gunmen at his Tion-Sha resident along Naka road in Makurdi.
The accused adviser, Joe Ikyaagba, 57, was earlier picked up by the Police at the weekend and has been charged with culpable homicide.
The prosecution told the court that on May, 20, the Chairman of Vigilante in TionSha village reported that the deceased was trailed by unknown gunmen on motorcycle while returning to his home from a government function.
The complainant also explained to the court that the gunmen opened fire on the late Igbana’s white Toyata Hilux van and continued to rain bullets on him until he fell down at a neighbour’s compound, making a dying declaration against the accused.
According to the prosecution, the deceased was later rushed to the Benue State Teaching Hospital where he died.
When the case came up, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction and no bail was granted.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Theresa Wergba has adjourned the matter to August, 3.
