Resign Or Face Sack, Gov Ortom Tells Appointees Arrested Over Killing Of His Security Aide
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom may soon sack some of his top government functionaries that were arrested by the police and are being interrogated over the gruesome murder of his security aide, Denen Igbana, should the appointees fail to resign voluntarily.
LEADERSHIP gathered exclusively that Ortom has been seriously devastated since his SSA on special security was assassinated and hence the ugly incident propelled the recent fervent prayers and fasting to dedicate Benue to God, during which the governor laid down and cried profusely for divine intervention.
The men of the CID at the Benue State Police Command had last Friday arrested Arch. Joseph Ikyaagba, a special adviser to the governor and seven others over alleged killing of the special assistant to the governor on security, Igbana.
Reacting immediately, Ortom had said in a press statement signed by his chief press secretary, Terver Akase, “that he will not shield anyone that is found by security operatives to be connected to the killing of his aide, no matter how highly placed.”
However, a source at Government House who pleaded anonymity told LEADERSHIP yesterday that Governor Ortom was visibly angry and had vowed to sack the invited top government functionaries that were being interrogated by the police, should they refuse to resign their appointments.
