The Mutual Union of Tiv in America, MUTA, has presented an award to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom for his contributions to the organisation's health and education programmes in the state.
The award was presented to the Governor today at the opening of the 2016 MUTA Convention in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States of America
.

Speaking during the ceremony, President of MUTA, Mr. Henry Mngerem, described Governor Ortom as a pillar behind the success of this year's Health Fair organised by the union to offer free medical services to the people in four local government areas of the state.
Mr. Mngerem who congratulated Governor Ortom for the efforts his administration had made in education and health, pledged the support of MUTA to the state in various aspects that could have positive impact on the lives of the people.
In an address to the Convention earlier presented by the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Peter Ichull, Governor Ortom expressed the willingness of his administration to collaborate with sons and daughters of the state in different parts of the world for greater development.
The Governor also used the opportunity to draw the attention of the international community to frequent attacks on the people of the state by herdsmen which has led to the loss of many innocent lives.
He expressed the determination of the present administration to ensure that the attacks are brought to an end.
Governor Ortom said though the current economic downturn had adversely affected the smooth running of government particularly the payment of salaries, his administration had been able to record significant achievements within a short period.
"I am glad to state that we have not allowed the challenges to weigh us down. We have been able to record major milestones within one year in office with the limited resources at our disposal", he stated.
Other speakers at the MUTA Convention corroborated the call for unity among Benue people in the diaspora to be able to attract greater development to the state.
