NFF mourns Ogaba



The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Friday mourned the passing of former Nigeria international player Peter Ogaba.
The federation, which made the announcement via its Twitter handle, @thenff said:” We are shocked to hear of the sad demise of former Junior Int’l Peter Ogaba. Ogaba was part of the Eaglets at Canada 87.



“May the soul of Late Peter Ogaba Rest in Peace,” the statement concluded.

Ogaba was widely known famous for being the youngest player to play at a FIFA youth tournament.  He was 13 years old at the time he starred for the Eaglets at the U-17 World Cup.

After his stint with the Eaglets in Canada in 1987, he joined the U-20 and played at the FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted by Saudi Arabia in 1989. Nigeria lost in the final to Portugal.

Ogaba, who died on Friday, August 5 at Asokoro General Hospital, after a brief illness which started on Wednesday, August 3, played for clubs in Nigeriabefore pursuing  a professional football career in Europe where he played for clubs like KSC Lokeren in Belgium, FC Oulu in Finland, Duisburg in German, Desportivo Club Beja in Portugal, Leiftur in Iceland, and Boldklub Hostelbus of Denmark among others.

After quitting professional football in 2006, he coached Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Premier League from 2006-2009. He also had a stint with FC Lokoja before setting up a football academy in Abuja.
