Breaking ! Massive Protest at INEC HQ Makurdi , as Ushongo Youths demand conduct of election into Ushongo And Mbagwa Constituencies. [VIDEO]

Hundreds of youths from Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State today stormed the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Makurdi in protest demanding that the electoral body conduct elections into two state constituencies in the area as ordered by the law courts.


 Prince Aondona Isaka reports that the youths who carried placards and chanted slogans denounced what they described as undue delay in complying with the court judgement which was obtained in 2005 and reinforced in 2015, with a resolution of the House of Representatives backing it up only last week.

They also lampooned the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange, whom they accused of being the evil hand behind the manipulations which have stalled compliance with the latest order of the court, in his selfish bid to safeguard his personal interests to the detriment of the larger interests of Ushongo people.


Addressing the protesting youths, the Head of Department, Legal Services, at the INEC headquarters, Barr. Angela Ebhodaghe, assured the youths of the electoral umpire’s willingness to comply with the court order, stressing that the rights of Ushongo people to enjoy the full benefits of two constituencies will be protected.

She further averred that the matter will be speedily taken up with the National Headquarters of the electoral body to expedite action and ensure that elections are conducted in the two state constituencies within 90 days as required by law.
