#BringBackOurGirls protesters vow to march on Aso Rock .

Nigerians campaigning for the rescue of Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the extremist Boko Haram members on Wednesday resolved to march on the Presidential Villa Thursday to take the group’s message to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Over 250 girls were abducted from Government Secondary School Chibok on April 14 in a night raid by Boko Haram fighters. Some 53 of the students later escaped while about 223 are still believed to be in captivity.

The resolve of the protesters to march on the presidential palace came in spite of the warning issued by the Federal Capital Territory’s commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, to some arrowheads of the movement that his command would resist the peaceful demonstration.

During a report back session at a meeting of the #BringBackOurGirls campaigners, members were told that the Police chief, who also refused to receive previous notification letters for the group’s protests, had summoned some leaders to tell them that the group could not be allowed to march to the Villa.

Mr. Mbu, according to the report, said he would not allow the protesters to march beyond the Federal Secretariat. He suggested that the group could meet with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation instead of the President.

However, after exhaustive deliberation, members present at the meeting unanimously agreed to go ahead with the march tomorrow, Thursday.

A statement issued later by the Coordinator of the group, Hadiza Bala Usman said the procession to the Villa would be sequel to similar marches to the National Assembly, the Defence Headquarters and the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

“Therefore, as the President and Chief Security Officer of the country, this movement deemed it necessary to take its cry and demand to His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan,” the statement reads in part.

The organisers therefore urged those willing to take part in the demonstration to convene by 2:30pm at the usual venue of the #BringBackOurGirls village square meetings, Unity Fountain, adjacent Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Maitama, from where the march would commence at 3:00 p.m.

The peaceful protest and visits to key stakeholders, the group’s Coordinator said, aims to “catalyse positive action towards quick rescue of our abducted girls”.
