Senate Delays Screening Of Amaechi, Shittu.
The expected ministerial confirmation hearing for nominees Rotimi Amaechi and Adebayo Shittu was further deferred again on Thursday by the senate.
The next confirmation hearing has now been shifted to next week Tuesday, Oct. 20, Daily Trust learnt.
No excuse had been given by the senate as at the time of filing this report.
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers sate is facing stiff opposition from his state government under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over allegation of corruption.
Although, he was on the first batch of ministerial nominees sent to the senate by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sept 30, Amaechi is yet to be screened by the senate as its committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu was yet to clear him following a petition against his nomination from one “Integrity Group”.
On Wednesday, Senate President Bukola Saraki had announced that the duo of Rotimi Amaechi and Adebayo Shittu, the Oyo state nominee would be screened today. Shittu was listed to be screened on Wednesday but was dropped at the last minute.
Daily Trust correspondent observed that the order paper which outlines the senate programmes for the day did not list the confirmation hearing unlike the last two days when 18 nominees were screened and confirmed.
