SHARON'S KIDNAPPER

"My name is Oluwadare Akanmu. I have been working with Sharon's parents for six years now. I was working with the parents from Port Harcourt and they brought me to Lagos and I have been living with them. I am a welder and I want to start life so I went to tell Sharon's father to assist me with N250,000 so that I can stand on my own. He gave me N40,000 for one of the tools but the money was not enough. So one day, something came over me and I decided to carry Sharon away so that the parents will give me the N500,000 so I can start life."

Mr. Akanmu said he went to Sharon's school at about 2.35pm that day, picked her up and took her to his friend, Ibrahim's house at Alakoko, a Lagos suburb, where he kept her for eight days. He said his N15,000 monthly salary was not enough to sustain him and he decided to kidnap Sharon so that he could demand a ransom of N500,000 to start a welding shop.

"When I took Sharon to my friend's house, I took care of her and I was asking for N500,000 ransom, but my friends were demanding N10 million. On Monday, I became fed up with the whole kidnap thing and I called Sharon's father and told him where we were. So that was how police came and arrested me and took Sharon away. I feel bad about what I did," Mr Akanmu said.

Court Frees Al Mustapha.

Major Hamzat Al Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Nigerian military dictator, General Sanni Abacha, has been "released" by the Lagos High Court.

His release follows several years of trial for several alleged crimes, including the murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the deceased winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Sources at the Ministry of Justice in Lagos said Al Mustapha's release today relates only to his trial for the attempted murder of Alex Ibru, the publisher of The Guardian.  A few weeks ago, he made a no-case submission in connection with the case.

According to the source, Mr. Al Mustapha still faces other charges relating to the murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola. In the circumstances, it is unclear if Mr. Mustapha would be physically released after today's judgement.

At Last Sharon Has Being Found.PRAISE GOD.

About a week ago,5 year old Sharon Omolayo was declared missing by her family and the whole country lost eye blinks looking for her.Goodnews she has just being found not quite 30minutes ago in Ifo in Ogun State.Fillers have it that the guy who picked her up from school was actually responsible,He's being living with Sharons parents for sometime.
Sharon according to reports was supposed to be used for money ritual but due to the publicity and broadcast everywhere, they rejected her so the guy who picked her up placed a ransom of N30Million,the discussion was tapped and traced ,and loo and behold ,it was an insider.Sharon is ok and safe ,her parents are already on their way to pick her up.
Thanks to everyone who prayed and showed concern.

Chiwetel Ejiofor Will Star as Fela Kuti in Steve McQueen-Directed Biopic of the Afrobeat Musician

Director Steve McQueen (Hunger) has been developing a biopic on Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti over at Focus Features, and Deadline reports that Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men) is "formally attached" to play the Nigerian icon on screen.  Though the two projects are unrelated, the Broadway musical Fela! has enjoyed a great run (it recently earned eleven Tony nominations) and brought Kuti's music back to the forefront of American culture.

On the set of the upcoming Angelina Jolie thriller Salt, Ejiofor started learning how to play the piano and saxophone to do the role justice, and has apparently gotten "quite good."  Given the political bent of Kuti's music, the considerable chops of Mr. Ejiofor, and the awards prowess of Focus Features, this biopic has Oscar written all over it.  To get a taste of Kuti's funky brand of political activism, hit the jump.

Influenced by the Black Power movement in America, Kuti was a key supporter of human rights in Nigeria in the 1970s and 1980s.  Many of his songs attacked the military dictatorship and the way they ruled his country, but he was also critical of fellow citizens whom he felt had forsaken African traditionalism.

My personal favorite Kuti song is "Zombie."  Not only is it a vicious critique of the government that compares Nigerian soldiers to zombies, it's a real party starter.  Have a listen:
