Nigeria Fuel Tanker Explosion Kills At Least 95 People In Port Harcourt.

A crashed fuel tanker has blown up in Nigeria, killing nearly 100 people. The victims literally died for oil as they were scooping up the "black gold" spilling out of the vehicle before it exploded.

At least 95 people were killed near the Nigerian oil center Port Harcourt on Thursday after an overturned oil tanker exploded.
Hundreds of impoverished bypassers had rushed towards the tanker to scoop up fuel using pans after the tanker tipped over near Port Harcourt, located more than 600 kilometers (400 miles) south east of Lagos. When the tanker burst into flames, scores of people were buzzing around the vehicle. It is not yet clear what ignited the explosion.
"Early this morning a tanker loaded with petrol fell in Okogbe and people trooped to the scene obviously to scoop the spilled fuel and suddenly there was fire resulting in casualties," Rivers State police spokesman Ben Ugwuegbulam stated.
"At about 7:30 while I was inside trying to decide whether to go (scoop fuel) or not. That is when I saw that the tanker exploded," added Kingsley Jafure, a local motorcycle taxi driver
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a statement that "rescue workers from the police, road safety, fire service, civil defence and NEMA were at the scene to evacuate victims and control the traffic." But 93 people were declared dead on the scene and two more died later in hospital. About 20 were taken to hospital after the accident, many with serious injuries.
The vehicle had swerved to avoid crashing into three other vehicles, according to Kayode Olagunju, sector commander of the southern Rivers State's Federal Road Safety Commission.

Court Dismisses Certificate Forgery Case Against Suswam.

The Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State yesterday dismissed a certificate forgery case filed by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Terver Kakih, against Governor Gabriel Suswam .
Kakih had filed the matter a year ago just as he urged the court to disqualify the election of the governor on the grounds of SSCE certificate forgery.
Kakih, who contested the PDP ticket with Suswam in the April 2011 primaries of the party in Benue State, had alleged that Suswam did not submit to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) his SSCE certificate .
Kakih further alleged that the certificate was forged, claiming that the governor also marred the 2011 PDP primaries to influence his win as flag bearer of the party in the state.
Delivering his judgment at about 9.30 am which lasted for over three hours, Justice Marcel Awokulehim held that though Kakih had the right to complain of non-level playing ground and non-conduct of ward congresses in the party primaries , it was note worthy that the issue of non-compliance of election regularities and who the party determined to be the desired candidate in an election was an exclusive party affair vide section 35 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
The judge further held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
According to Awokulehim, though Kakih had alleged that Suswam forged SSCE certificate and that he (Kakih) had testified before the court that he visited the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) where he met the officer that influenced the forgery , the plaintiff did not remember the name of the officer and also denied that he was not at any point where the forgery was done

ACN Benue Assembly Legislators Boycott Debate On Motion To Have A Deputy Majority Leader.

Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lawmakers in the Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday boycotted the debate on the amendment of the Standing Rules of the assembly during a plenary session.
The Nation learnt that the ACN members boycotted the debate because the Deputy Speaker of the House, Dr. Stephen Onmeje, moved a motion that there was need to have a deputy majority leader, while time was not ripe for the opposition members to have a deputy minority leader.

Bayelsa State Governor Appoints Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan And 16 Others As Permanent Secretaries In The Civil Service.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has appointed the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan, as one of the seventeen new Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service.

Jonathan, according to a statement from the Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Gloria Izonfo, on Wednesday, was appointed alongside 16 senior civil servants. The statement was read on the state radio.

“By the constitutional power conferred on the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, in section 203 sub-section 2c, Dame Patience Jonathan and seventeen others have been elevated to the position of Permanent Secretary in the state civil service,” Izonfo said.

Our correspondent, however, reports that the appointment has stirred a controversy in the state with some Bayelsans expressing misgivings about the appointment.

The other seventeen permanent secretaries are: Mr. J.E. Oye, Samson Ayibeboa, Mrs. Antonia Koroye, Ziwari Billie, Buruboyefa John, Dikuro Ayebameh, Serge Williams, Olu Kuruom, G.I.Izein, Mrs.Philomena Alodie, Dr. Omietimi Kojo, Ese Izonebi, Ohougha Maythias, James Clinton, Mrs. Linnet Tebepah, Moses Teibowei, Dr. A. Sanayi and Vivian Odiwei.

Jonathan, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, had served in the Rivers and Bayelsa states civil services before her husband’s election as deputy governor. However, our reporter couldn’t confirm if she had been due for appointment as permanent secretary before her husband’s first election.

The wife of the President has a National Certificate of Education in Mathematics/Biology, which she obtained in 1989 from the Rivers State College of Education. She also has a degree in Biology and Psychology (Education) from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seriake, on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Mackson Iworiso, confirmed the appointment, adding that the development was a ‘routine action’ in the civil service.

We are very somber to report that following an accident on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday involving a jet ski, Tameka Raymond's 11 year old son, Kile Glover, has been declared brain dead.

Kile is Tameka Raymonds's son from a previous marriage with Ryan Glover, one of the leaders of Bounce TV and a producer and promoter.
The estranged wife of R&B sensation Usher has been at her son's side since she got news of the incident and there is no news on whether or not the family will take him off of life support.

TMZ is reporting that Kile has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital and doctors have officially announced him brain dead today.
Usher arrived at the hospital late last night to be at his stepson's side after he chartered a jet for Tameka to fly in to be with her son following the accident as she was out of town.

Kile was struck in the head by a passing jet ski while riding on an inner tube. The jet ski was driven by a 38- -year-old man who is currently cooperating with the investigation. A 15-year-old girl was also injured, but there are no updates on her state.

Kourtney Kardashian Gives Birth To Baby Girl!

 

The time has finally arrived! The eldest Kardashian sister, Kourtney gave birth to her second child and first daughter late last night, July 8. Sources say that the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan was there for the birth, minus Bruce and Rob. Kourtney and Scott welcomed little Penelope Scotland Disick into the world.
E! Online exclusively reported,

The baby girl was born early Sunday in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and joins big brother Mason in the ever-expanding Kardashian-Disick household.
"Scott and I are overjoyed to welcome our precious angel Penelope Scotland Disick into our lives. We are forever blessed. Mommy and baby are resting comfortably," Kourtney tells E! News.
The 33-year-old E! star had an all-natural birth, and her new mini-me tipped the scales at 7 pounds, 14 ounces.
"It was a great. She had an easy delivery," matriarch Kris Jenner tells us. "[Penelope] is so cute. She looks just like Mason. She's so beautiful. We are so happy."

Curfew Imposed On Plateau State.

Following the massive violence of the past 24 hours, a curfew has been imposed on Plateau State and soldiers have been deployed in the area with a view to forestalling reprisal killings.
The Plateau State government announced the dusk to dawn curfew after several political leaders were killed today by gunmen suspected to be Islamic militants.
Following yesterday’s massacre of about 20 people by unidentified gunmen, Senator Gyang Dalyop Dantong, and Plateau State Asemblyman Gyang Fulani were today killed along with many others at a funeral for yesterday’s victims. A House of Representatives member Simon Davou Mwadkwon was critically injured.
The death of the politicians is reported to have led to reprisal killings along Barkin Lardi Riyom expressway, where motorists were caught unawares. Several commuters were reportedly slaughtered by mobs.
In Jos, the state capital, at least four people were killed in reprisal attacks in front of Senator Dantong’s home on St-Finbarrs road.

StarGame’s most loved up couple is no more. Tonight Junia and Malonza became the latest Housemates to bid farewell to the Big Brother House.
While the Eviction gods smiled upon Lady May, Goldie, Prezzo and Kyle unfortunately for the StarGame sweethearts tonight was the end of the road of their journey inside of the Big Brother House.
After StarGame presenter IK announced Malonza as the third Housemate to be evicted from Upville, Junia broke down as her man headed out of the House, little did she know that just moments later she too would be headed for Homeville. After IK revealed that she was leaving, she let out a sigh of relief and whispered. “At least I am leaving with him.”
On the Live Show Eviction stage Malonza shared that their relationship was the one thing that brought him joy inside of the Big Brother House. “I am happy, because of Junia,” he said fondly.
It is clear that these two have genuine feelings for one another and now they finally have a chance to see if their love is more than an illusion as Malonza’s brother Alex claimed, for both their sakes we hope that Alex is wrong.

50 Corpses Discovered In Pastor's House In Plateau.

At least 50 corpses have been discovered in the house of a pastor in Plateau State.
The pastor is reported to belong to the Church of Christ in Nigeria.
The corpses were suspected to be those who ran for safety in the pastor's house as they were being pursued by Fulanis.
The discovery was made in Matse in Riyom area of the state.
The state has been in crisis in the last few days with Fulani men attacking.
As reported on Saturday, not less than 20 persons were killed in nine villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

 We just learnt that Senator Datong Dalyop and the majority leader of the Plateau State house of Assembly Gyang Fulani were all murdered today during a mass burial for scores of people killed yesterday by unknown gunmen. A third person Simon Mwadkwon who is a member of the house of representatives was critically injured during the attack.
